The Cala Santa Ponsa Beach is just 600ft away from our Bahía del Sol Hotel. It is the main beach of Santa Ponsa, Majorca. It is reasonably large (1/2 mile). It is a protected beach awarded with the EU Blue Flag**. It has golden sand along with a beautiful promenade. Swimming in the bay is generally quite safe with no strong currents, and fairly shallow waters.
Santa Ponsa is a holiday area in the south-west of Majorca, 18 kilometres away from Palma.
Santa Ponsa derives its name from a Roman villa called Sancta Pontia. Here is where the King James the First (Jaume I) landed on September 12th, 1229 to conquer the island and take it from the Moors after more than 300 years of Muslim rule. A cross at the entrance to the marina marks the spot where Jaume I landed.
